Rob Penney’s back row options are set to improve with South African back row unit CJ Stander arriving at Munster today.

Stander, who can play flanker or number 8, ended his commitment to the Blue Bulls in the semi final of the Currie Cup when they were beaten by the Sharks 20-3 at King's Park Stadium in Durban a fortnight ago.

The 22-year-old racked up 55 points in 36 appearances with the Bulls and captained the South African U20 team in the 2010 IRB World Junior Championship.

He is expected to meet the squad tomorrow at training in UL.

As one player's Munster career begins, another ends with the Province confirming that centre Troy Smith will return to his native New Zealand this week.

Smith's contribution was significant at British & Ireland level but his progress was blighted by injury, which ultimately lead to his decision to return home.
