South Africa have called Sharks back-rower Jean Deysel into their World Cup training squad to provide injury cover.
The 26-year-old comes into the panel as Juan Smith, Schalk Burger, Willem Alberts and Duane Vermeulen are all carrying niggles.
And Deysel, first capped in the 2009 Test against Italy, has today joined up with the rest of Peter de Villiers’ squad at the team base in Cape Town.
A SARU statement read: “Sharks loose-forward Jean Deysel has been added to the Springbok training squad in Cape Town because of injuries. Deysel joined the group on Wednesday.”
The South African Rugby Union have also dismissed reports that Stormers defence coach Jacques Nienaber has been added to the Springboks’ backroom staff for the global showpiece in New Zealand, clarifying that he is assisting the squad on a short-term basis before returning to his province in time for the Currie Cup competition.
