Foden cautioned by police
Northampton and England full-back Ben Foden has been cautioned for causing criminal damage after an apparent bust-up with a taxi driver, police sources said.
The 25-year-old was celebrating his club’s Aviva Premiership win over Wasps in central London in the early hours of last Monday when trouble flared.
He was arrested along with a 23-year-old in Piccadilly and taken into custody before being released.
The pair were bailed but later accepted police cautions – Foden for criminal damage and his co-accused for theft from a vehicle.
A spokesman for the Rugby Football Union said it would wait to see if Northampton would take any action against Foden before deciding its response.
Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder revealed after this afternoon’s 53-24 win over Sale Sharks that Saints will be taking no further action.
The former Sale player has become a regular at number 15 for England over the last 12 months and played all five games of this year’s victorious RBS 6 Nations campaign.
He scored the only try in England’s 17-9 victory over France at Twickenham last month and has 15 caps to his name.
