England skipper a doubt for Dublin showdown

England have delayed any official announcement on Mike Tindall’s availability for Saturday’s Grand Slam decider against Ireland until tomorrow.

Tindall, who has captained England to the brink of the RBS 6 Nations title, injured his ankle in yesterday’s 22-16 victory over Scotland and was replaced at half-time.

The Gloucester centre lifted the Calcutta Cup but then left Twickenham in a protective boot to undergo x-rays.

Tindall will be further assessed by England medics when the squad reconvene at Pennyhill Park this afternoon.

If Tindall is ruled out of the Dublin clash, Harlequins number eight Nick Easter would be the leading candidate to captain England.
