Stoddart out of Scotland game with broken hand

Wales tonight revealed that wing Morgan Stoddart is a doubt for the Scotland clash.

Stoddart, who scored Wales’ try against England, broke a bone in his hand, and played on during the final 20 minutes after being hurt.

He will be reviewed by a specialist on Monday, but coach Warren Gatland is likely to consider summoning a wing reinforcement to his squad, although no additions have so far been made.

Stoddart’s injury follows an ankle problem suffered by Cardiff Blues wing Leigh Halfpenny in training last Monday.

Players in the frame for a call-up would include Tom James, Aled Brew and Will Harries.

Wales physiotherapist Mark Davies said: “Morgan has broken a metacarpal bone in his right hand and will have a consultation with a hand surgeon when he reports back to the Wales camp on Monday.

“It is too soon to say how long he will be in recovery, but it is hoped that he will be back in contention for selection soon and be able to play a further part in the championship.

“We will have a clearer idea of when he may return to play by Monday.”

An assessment of Powell’s bruised shoulder, meanwhile, will also be made at the start of the week.
