Munster hooker Jerry Flannery has been ruled out of competitive action for between four to six weeks after the results of a scan revealed a torn calf muscle.

Munster hooker Jerry Flannery has been ruled out of competitive action for between four to six weeks after the results of a scan revealed a torn calf muscle.

Flannery suffered the injury in the closing stages of Munster’s win over Ulster last weekend and the Limerick native looks set to miss his side’s remaining Heineken Cup pool games against Toulon and London Irish as well as Ireland’s opening RBS Six Nations games against Italy and France in February.

Meanwhile, Munster coach Tony McGahan has named an extended squad for Saturday’s Magners League game against Glasgow Warriors at Musgrave Park, (kick-off 7.30pm).

Dolphin backrower James Coughlan returns to the Munster squad having seeing a specialist who confirmed his cheekbone injury was not as serious as first thought.

The starting line-up will be confirmed at noon on Friday.
