Madigan the difference for Blackrock
Young Munster 14 Blackrock College 15
Leinster out-half Ian Madigan booted Blackrock College to a one-point win over Young Munster in today’s Division 1A clash at Tom Clifford Park.
Young Munster, who have now lost their last three All-Ireland League games, had to be content with a losing bonus point. They scored the only try of a game played in difficult conditions.
Munsters had lock Darragh Payne sin-binned after just seven minutes and while he was off the pitch, Madigan landed his opening penalty goal.
Three minutes later, home out-half Alan Kingsley replied and the sides were locked level at 3-3 for half-time, with Blackrock full-back Niall Morris flashed a yellow card three minutes before the break.
Kingsley punished 14-man ‘Rock with his second penalty and winger Darragh O’Neill got over for an unconverted try.
However, Madigan wrestled back the points for the Dubliners. His four well-struck penalties over the closing half-hour handed ‘Rock their second successive league win.
Scorers:
Young Munster: Try: Darragh O’Neill; Pens: Alan Kingsley 3
Blackrock College: Pens: Ian Madigan 5.
