Wales suffer double injury blow before Boks clash

Wales suffered a double injury blow ahead of today’s Millennium Stadium clash against world champions South Africa.

Prop Gethin Jenkins failed a late fitness test on a calf muscle problem, and will be replaced by Paul James, with John Yapp providing bench cover.

Flanker Dan Lydiate was the second casualty, missing out because of an ankle injury. His place at blindside will be filled by Wasps’ Andy Powell.

It will be Powell's first Wales appearance since he was kicked out of the squad last season following an infamous golf buggy incident the morning after Wales' Six Nations victory over Scotland.

Ryan Jones will provide back-row options off the bench, with lock Deiniol Jones called up to join the replacements.

Wales have lost their last 11 Tests against South Africa and they face the Springboks on the back of a 25-16 loss to Australia last weekend.

Their record under coach Warren Gatland against Tri Nations opposition shows 10 losses from 11 starts.
