Hanrahan misses chance to secure victory for UL
Bruff 14 UL Bohemians 13
Former Ireland Schools international JJ Hanrahan missed a late penalty for UL Bohemians who lost narrowly to their Limerick rivals Bruff at Kilballyowen Park today.
The three Cahill brothers – Brian, Eoin and Tony – were all on the scoresheet for Bruff as they made it back-to-back wins in All-Ireland League Division 1B.
Centre Brian got the hosts off to an encouraging start when he kicked a penalty after just two minutes’ play.
But the lead was quickly wiped out by Bohs out-half Hanrahan, the ex-Rockwell College and Munster Schools star, who landed two penalties inside the opening 21 minutes.
But Bruff went in at the break, armed with an 8-6 buffer. After he had missed a 30th-minute penalty and the home pack mauled forward with intent, Brian Cahill made a great break and timed his pass to perfection for his brother Eoin to notch an unconverted try.
Out-half Tony Cahill took over the place-kicking duties and within five minutes of the restart, he landed a penalty to give Bruff an 11-6 advantage.
Brian Cahill landed his second successful penalty, before lock Ed Kelly broke through for a try which Hanrahan converted. However, the youngster’s late miss proved costly for UL who had to settle for a losing bonus point.
