An anxious wait ahead for Irish rugby supporters and management with fitness verdicts looming on a quartet of senior players ahead of final preparations for the opening game of the Guinness November International Series.

Irish captain Brian O'Driscoll was one of four players to sit out training with the squad in Limerick ahead of the first of the test against South Africa on Saturday week.

The Irish management will assess O'Driscoll's fitness along with that of Gordon Darcy, Rory Best and Keith Earls later this week.

The Ireland squad will continue their training camp in Limerick for the remainder of this week before transferring to Dublin next week ahead of the first game of the Guinness Series against South Africa in the Aviva Stadium on November 6.

AUTUMN INTERNATIONALS FIXTURES:

Saturday, November 6: Ireland v South Africa, 5.30pm

Saturday, November 13: Ireland v Samoa, 2.30pm

Saturday, November 20: Ireland v New Zealand, 5.30pm

Sunday, November 28: Ireland v Argentina, 2.30pm.
