Monye out for 12 weeks

England wing Ugo Monye will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks after undergoing surgery on his big toe.

England wing Ugo Monye will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks after undergoing surgery on his big toe.

The 27-year-old, a member of the England Saxons squad this season, had an operation on Friday evening.

His club Harlequins described the surgery as “successful”, but Monye is battling to play again before mid-December.

“The extent and duration of the injury will be known more clearly after further consultation with the surgeon,” said Quins, in a statement.

Monye has won 13 England caps and played in the first and third Tests during last year’s British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa, scoring a try in the Lions’ third Test win at Ellis Park, Johannesburg.
