Convincing win for Ireland U20s
The Ireland U20s rounded off the Pool stage of the Junior World Cup with a resounding 45-0 win over Uruguay in Nagoya today.
Six of the seven tries came from backs with wing Jonny Shiels (2), full-back David Kearney (2), out-half Andrew Burke and Michael Keating weighing in beside a try from hooker David McGregor.
Kearney's powerful running from 15 was a feature of the game for a young man, on the same day his brother Robert was playing so well for the Lions against Western Province at Newlands.
"We're very pleased with aspects of our game. We created a lot of opportunities and we were able to convert a number of tries," said coach Allen Clarke.
"The 45-0 scoreline certainly didn't flatter us. We left a number of points out there. Having said that, the conditions were difficult. Our work-rate was high and our defence was exceptional again."
Ireland will now go forward to the fifth-eighth place play-Off.
