The South Americans fielded only home-based players but still ran out comfortable winners.

San Martin said: “It was a good match and a great debut. We were superior from the first minute onwards and in every aspect of the game.”

Leonardo Senatore, Genaro Fessia, Mauro Comuzzi (two), Tomas Leonardi, Agustin Creevy, Guillermo Roan, Gonzalo Camacho and Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino scored the tries for Argentina, while Santiago Fernandez scored a penalty and seven conversions.

Namibia’s only response came with David Philander’s try and Jaco van Zyl’s conversion.

The sides will play again next Friday in La Plata.
