Gavin Henson was given a shock recall by the Ospreys for today’s Heineken Cup clash against Perpignan at the Liberty Stadium.

Despite being handed a two-match ban by the Ospreys for missing training the British Lions and Wales centre has been included in the 22 to cover for an injury crisis behind the scrum.

That came after James Hook (back spasm) joined growing injury list of backline personnel – Rhodri Wells, Nikki Walker, Sonny Parker, Gareth Owen, Mike Phillips and Jamie Nutbrown.

A statement from the Ospreys said they “have been forced to invite Gavin Henson to take the remaining place amongst the replacements for today’s game, bringing short his two-game ban in recognition of the extraordinary circumstances and the good spirit in which Gavin has addressed the recent disciplinary action and his match readiness as a result of his full participation in this week’s training with the squad".
