Hooker Fergus Thomson will make his first start for Scotland in Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations wooden-spoon decider against Italy in Rome.

The Glasgow Warriors star comes in for Ross Ford after the Edinburgh number two suffered ankle ligament damage in Saturday’s Calcutta Cup triumph at Murrayfield.
