London Irish sign Cambridge duo

London Irish have signed Cambridge University fly-half Ross Broadfoot and scrum-half Ross Blake on short-term contracts.

The Exiles are shot on half-back options with Paul Hodgson on England duty, while Peter Richards, Shane Geraghty and Eoghan Hickey are all injured.

Blake, a former Scotland Under-21 international, captained Cambridge to a 22-16 victory over Oxford in the Varsity match last December.

Broadfoot, the former Leicester fly-half, returns to London Irish where he was a member of the academy before moving to Welford Road.

London Irish director of rugby Brian Smith said: “We had only one fit half-back pairing available for this weekend’s game.

“Ross Blake and Ross Broadfoot are an experienced, proven combination and we’ve been fortunate to sign them.”
