Blackrock College picked up their second win of the AIB League season with a confident display against Lansdowne at the RDS.

'Rock scored a try in each half in trying conditions with centre Gary Brown and full-back Fionn Carr both touching down.

Carr was an influential figure as he kicked three first half penalties, scored his try and kicked another penalty for a 19-point haul.

An early Luke Cozens penalty had Lansdowne leading. The hosts' only try was scored by full-back Justin Meagher.

Having won nine of the sides' previous 14 league meetings and won 35-10 away to Greystones last weekend, Lansdowne were rightly in a confident mood before kick-off.

71-15 losers on their most recent league visit to Lansdowne, 'Rock got back to winning ways seven days ago with a bonus point win over Dungannon and fielded a team today full of both experience and youth - Shane Byrne, Brown and Des Dillon have all been capped by Leinster, while the likes of Carr and Ireland Under-20 Grand Slam squad members Shane Monahan and Kyle Tonetti the province's stars of the future.

By the midpoint of the half, Lansdowne were 3-0 to the good thanks to a penalty from Cozens, who made his first start at out-half for Lansdowne last Saturday.

But with Brown and Tonetti, who slotted in at number 10, beginning to click in 'Rock's back-line, the visitors soon took the lead. A lovely pop pass saw Brown dash over from 30 metres out for his side's first try.

Meagher got off the mark for Lansdowne but in difficult conditions, 'Rock eked out a series of penalty chances which saw Carr, the Leinster 'A' full-back, kick them to a 16-point by the half-time whistle.

Despite the best efforts of their pack, with Devin Toner, David Lavin and William Wallace to the fore, Lansdowne failed to score during the entire second half.

The darkness overhead forced the floodlights to be switched on after the break and 'Rock managed to see out the win without too much difficult. Carr's third try of the campaign was effectively the icing on the cake.
