Portugal won the first leg of their World Cup play-off with Uruguay by a 12-5 score in Lisbon.
The hosts will defend their slender lead in the second leg in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo on March 24.
The winners will play in World Cup Group C alongside New Zealand, Scotland, Italy and Romania.
