Buccaneers picked up their first win of the league season as full-back Tom Cregan kicked two second half penalties at Eaton Park.

Cregan bisected the posts on 60 and 77 minutes to move Buccs off the foot of the Division One table.

Three Dirkie Strydom penalties eased Ballymena into a 9-0 first quarter lead but Geoff Moylan’s visitors bounced back for a 12-9 break advantage.

Teenage out-half Aidan Wynne and Ireland Sevens international Mark Bruce both touched down before half-time and though Chris Henry crossed for the hosts, Cregan’s kicking handed Buccs their first win in four trips to Ulster.

Scorers: Ballymena: Try: Chris Henry; Con: Dirkie Strydom; Pens: Strydom 3

Buccaneers: Tries: Aidan Wynne, Mark Bruce; Con: Tom Cregan; Pens: Cregan 2
