AIB League fixtures announced

AIB League champions Shannon will open the defence of their crown in the 2006-07 AIB League Division One with a tough away trip to Ulster side Ballymena as the Limerick club attempt to make it four titles in a row.

If they are successful in this season’s campaign, it will be their ninth AIB League title and their second four in a row, following the feat of the club during the 1990s.

There are plenty of sides in this years Division One who will be looking to put an end to Shannon’s winning streak. None more so then the beaten finalists from last May, Clontarf, who also open their campaign with a tough away game against Cork Constitution, the side that they beat 26-6 in last year’s semi final.

Last season’s other semi finalists, Garryowen, who topped the league at the end of the season but fell to eventual winners Shannon 21-20, also open their league campaign with an away game, this time visiting Ulster side Dungannon.

2005-06 AIB League Division Two champions Terenure College open their campaign in Limerick against UL Bohemians.

In Division Two, newly-promoted Clonakilty play UCC in a local derby while beaten finalists and newly promoted Suttonians will be away to Midleton.

AIB League newcomers Rainey Old Boys are away to Corinthians in their first game in Division Three.

A number of matters are pending arising out of objections and complaints lodged by a few clubs which, when determined, will identify which of the respective clubs will be participating in Division One or Division Two of the AIB League.

The IRFU said today that it regrets the delay in issuing this season’s fixture list and for any inconvenience caused to the AIB League clubs as a result of the delay.

AIB League Division One fixtures for Saturday, October 14:

Ballymena v Shannon

Buccaneers v Blackrock College

Cork Constitution v Clontarf

Dolphin/Young Munster v UCD

Dungannon v Garryowen

DU/Galwegians v Belfast Harlequins

Lansdowne v St. Mary's College
