Leinster sign Whitaker
Leinster have completed the signing of Australian international scrum-half Chris Whitaker.
Whitaker, who will join the Heineken Cup quarter-finalists this summer, has agreed a two-year contract.
The New South Wales Waratahs skipper, capped 31 times, made his Test debut against South Africa in 1998, but understudied current Wallabies skipper George Gregan throughout the past eight years.
Whitaker, 31, also played in the 1999 and 2003 World Cup competitions.
“We are delighted that Chris has decided to come and play his rugby with Leinster,” said Leinster head coach Michael Cheika.
“Several top European teams were keen to sign him, but after visiting our set-up he was extremely enthusiastic in continuing his career in Ireland and in the Celtic League and Heineken Cup.
“He has a wealth of international experience and is a natural leader, having led the Waratahs to a Super 12 final last year.”
