Two tries apiece from scrum half John Kilbride and winger James Norton saw St. Mary’s College beat their Dublin rivals Terenure College by 31-25 to book a place in the AIB Cup semi-finals.
Mary’s broke clear in the second half at Lakelands to set up a last-four trip to Garryowen.
Three penalties from fly half Richard Governey kept ‘Nure in the hunt at 9-14 down at half time. But tries from Kilbride and Norton, both converted by Connacht’s Mark McHugh, pushed Mary’s in front and on the way to reclaiming the Dr. Michael Smith Memorial trophy – played for between the Dublin clubs.
The industrious Kilbride and Norton added to their tallies in the second with Mary’s flanker Adrian Copeland also touching down. McHugh, playing at fly half in the absence of Mary’s Ireland Under-21 starlet Jonathan Sexton, converted all five of the visitors’ tries.
Lock Dara O’Doherty and full back Mark Mahony scored tries for ‘Nure, with Mahony’s effort a brilliant length of the field intercept score.
