Munster fans issue ticket appeal

Send all the tickets for Munster’s Heineken Cup quarter-final to Munster for distribution.

That’s the call today from fans who want to see the game against Perpignan in Lansdowne Road.

Perpignan are due an allocation of 25% but fans want the remainder to remain in Munster to satisfy demand from local fans.

Two seasons ago when they played Wasps in the semi-final at rugby HQ, a vast percentage of the tickets were distributed to clubs in Dublin much to the annoyance of Munster clubs.

“It’s impossible to get a ticket for a Heineken Cup game in Limerick,” an angry caller to The Evening Echo offices said today.

“All available tickets should come to Munster first and if there are some left over by all means send them to Dublin, but let us look after own first.”

Meanwhile, the Munster Supporters’ Club are confident of securing enough tickets`to satisfy all their members.

The supporters’ club are due to meet with the Munster Branch’s ticket officer within the next 10 days to discuss the matter, but PRO Glenn Flanagan is confident they will be happy with the outcome of that meeting.

“I reckon the game will be a sell-out and that we will have enough tickets to meet our members’ demands.

“Having spoken to some members already this week some people will be looking for between two and four tickets but I am confident we will satisfy the demand,” said Flanagan.

Under the rules of the ERC the match remains under the jurisdiction of the home club at the quarter-final stage and it is not until the competition reaches the last four that the home club’s union takes over.

Perpignan are entitled to 25% of the tickets but their past history in the competition leads Flanagan to believe that they will bring no more that one to one to 2,000 supporters to Dublin on the first weekend in April.

“In their most recent appearances in the semi-final and final of the competition they brought no more than 2,000 so I can’t see them taking up their full allocation of tickets which would make even more tickets available for Munster,” added Flanagan.
