Shannon run riot against Dungannon
Dungannon 0 Shannon 27
Shannon ran in three tries at Stevenson Park as they maintained first position in AIB League Division One with a 27-0 whitewashing of Dungannon.
Mick Galwey's side rather hit top gear and they did not have to as disappointing Dungannon conjured up just one clear-cut scoring chance through - fly-half Gareth Steenson missing a penalty kick midway through the first half.
Penalties from the league's top scorer Andrew Thompson on 8 and 17 minutes eased Shannon into the lead.
On 31 minutes, centre Brian Tuohy raced onto an Ian Dowling chip kick through to net the visitors' first try. Thompson added the extras and converted flanker Eddie Halvey's score in the third minute of injury-time for 20-0.
Former Ireland international Halvey, interestingly, was playing Sevens rugby for the Wooden Spoon charity side at a tournament in Dubai up until yesterday. A Shannon delegation picked him up at Dublin airport last night.
Shannon's fifth win of the campaign was sealed on 48 minutes when a 30-metre break from prop Tony Buckley was topped off by a try from second row Dave Keane. Thompson again converted, but the bonus point try never came.
