Lansdowne remain unbeaten
Lansdowne 25 UCD 14
Corey Burt inspired Lansdowne to a 25-14 win over near neighbours UCD on the main pitch at Lansdowne Road this afternoon.
The Kiwi fly half was instrumental in helping the headquarters side up to fourth in the AIB League Division One standings, kicking 20 points - six penalties and a conversion - to beat his debut haul of 18 last week.
Close to 400 spectators watched Lansdowne go 19-0 in front by half-time. Left winger Brendan McGeever, ironically a former UCD player, was on hand to touch down on 7 minutes after three or four phases from the hosts' pack.
Burt, who was capped by Wellington's NPC 'B' team, struck over the touchline conversion for a 10-0 lead to set Lansdowne on their way.
UCD did come back into proceedings as centre Ken Kennedy scored a try two minutes into the second half and full-back Ross McCarron added a 75th-minute one. Both were converted by Killian Lett, who was filling in for regular number 10 Eoghan Hickey who was a replacement for Leinster's Heineken Cup opener against Bath yesterday.
But Lansdowne were just too far in front and Burt sandwiched two more penalties in between those tries to confirm Lansdowne's second win of the campaign.
