Lucky Lions level at the break

Otago 13 Lions 13

Lions centre Will Greenwood scored an injury time first-half try to claw his side back into contention against Otago at Carisbrook today and tie the opening period 13-13.

The tourists had fallen behind to two penalties from Nick Evans before Charlie Hodgson levelled matters.

Danny Lee’s try then punished Clive Woodward’s men for poor defending, and they looked set for an interval lead until Greenwood scored.

Hodgson aimed a clever kick wide of the Otago posts, and after it bounced treacherously behind the home line, Greenwood gathered the kindest of bounces to touch down, sneaking in between Saunders and full-back Glen Horton.

It was a sucker-punch for Otago to concede, and Hodgson’s conversion levelled the game 13-13 at the break.
