South Africa advanced to next stage of the IRB Under-21 World Championship after a 42-25 win against Ireland.

For the Springboks Derick Kuun scored twice while Pieter Louw and Morne Steyn were also on the scoresheet, with Steyn also scoring four conversions, two penalty-kicks and one drop goal.

Stephen Ferris hit the only Irish try, but Gareth Steenson hit six penalties and one conversion.

Ireland’s captain Steenson said: “We did everything we could.”

Ireland, Samoa, Italy and Canada will now battle for the ninth to 12th spots.
