Weir desperate for team to restore pride
Scotland legend Doddie Weir admits he does not care who replaces Matt Williams as national coach – as long as they can restore some respect for the national team.
The former Newcastle and Borders lock believes Scotland are at an all-time low following Williams’ ill-fated reign, which has come to an end after his contract was terminated by the Scottish Rugby Union.
But Weir predicts rugby chiefs will be spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting Williams’ successor.
Weir said: “I have no preferences at all. I just think we need to get someone who can bring back respect, continuity and support for the national team.
“What is needed is for whoever takes over to take the team forward.
“But there is an international job up for grabs and I imagine there will be a few CVs sent to the SRU, even though there will be a lot of pressure on whoever takes over.”
