Wells plays down Corry's red card
Leicester boss John Wells has done his best to play down the significance of Martin Corry’s red card against Saracens ahead of their Heineken Cup semi-final against Toulouse.
The England number eight was sent off and Martin Johnson sin-binned for fighting as the Tigers were knocked off the top of the Zurich Premiership table following the 19-17 defeat to the Londoners.
Corry will likely be banned for three weeks after being dismissed for elbowing Richard Hill in the face during the first half at Vicarage Road, a suspension which would rule him out of next Sunday’s clash with Toulouse and the Premiership decider with Wasps on April 30.
The 31-year-old now faces the prospect of his second ban of the season, after he was suspended for a fortnight last October after appearing to stamp on an opponent in the game against Bath.
“If [referee] Chris White saw it as a red card, then that’s fine by me,” said Wells.
“We got through the Leinster [quarter-final] week and we’ll get through the Toulouse week as well, although it would have been better to do it after a win.”
