Munster deny Gaffney applied for Super 12 job

Munster have denied reports that coach Alan Gaffney had applied for a coaching position at a Super 12 side in Australia.

It had been reported in Australia that Gaffney had applied for the coach’s job at Western Australia.

It was also reported that Gaffney withdrew his application just before he was due to pitch his case to the Perth-based franchise via conference call late last night.

But a spokesperson for Munster, Pat Geraghty, has said that Gaffney has not made an application for the job "so there was no application to withdraw".

Mr Geraghty said that Gaffney was approached "unofficially" about the job "some months back", but had not applied for it.

Gaffney’s contract at Munster ends in June this year and has been linked with various jobs, including two in England.
