Scrum-half gives Garryowen slender win

Dublin University 5 Garryowen 6

Garryowen scrum-half Gerry Hurley single-handedly kept their play-off challenge intact as he booted them to a 6-5 Division One triumph over Dublin University.

The pivot's two first half penalties won a titanic tie, in which home side Trinity had lock Marc Warburton red carded in the second half.

Despite being down to 14 men, Tony Smeeth's side had mounted a comeback with Hugh Hogan muscling over on a short-range forward drive for their only points of the afternoon.

Keelan McGowan failed with the conversion, but third-from-bottom Trinity must hold out hope of staying up in their first season in the top flight.

With a game-in-hand, Smeeth's charges still have to face fellow strugglers County Carlow and Lansdowne in the run-in to April's finale.

Scorers: DU: Try: Hugh Hogan
