Garryowen 6 Belfast Harlequins 13
Garryowen's nine-game unbeaten run in the AIB League Division One came to an end at Dooradoyle this afternoon.
'Quins' recent South African recruit WP Strauss - deputising for regular fly-half Ian Humphreys, who is away with the Ireland Sevens squad - kicked two penalties and set up winger Jonny Lowe for the late try which sees Andre Bester's side up from tenth to sixth.
Garryowen, who were protecting the top flight's only 100% record left this season, edged in front through a 30-metre penalty from Gerry Hurley, but Strauss brought it back to 3-3 before the break.
Further penalties were swapped just on the hour mark before 'Quins effective pack secured ball for the returning Reece Spee on 77 minutes, just inside the home ten-metre line.
He fed Strauss who angled through the cover to set up Lowe for the clinching converted try, and a morale-boosting second win of the season.
