Ireland under-21 Gareth Steenson kicked 14 points but failed to rob Clontarf of an impressive third win of the AIB League Division One season.

Phil Werahiko's side are temporarily top of the table as 'Tarf ran amuck in the second half - scoring tries through flanker Declan Quinn, lock John Duffy and former Carlow scrum-half Dan van Zyl.

Ex-Colomiers back row David Tafanel kept them in the hunt at 8-16 down at the break, as he scored his first AIL try.

Dungannon - now without a win since the first day of the season - struck early as centre Allistair Clarke shuttled over from 15 metres, and Steenson's convert and three penalties saw the Ulster men eight points in front.

Quinn nipped in straight after the restart, and although the former Leinster Under 21 was also sin-binned, 'Tarf bulldozed past the visitors with the substitutes Dave Moore, Johnny Wickham and Connacht wing Niall O'Brien playing key roles.

Jeremy Davidson's side simply had no answer, and South African van Zyl's later scamper over handed Werahiko's charges a coveted bonus point.

Scorers: Clontarf: Tries: David Tafanel, Declan Quinn, John Duffy, Dan van Zyl; Cons: Dave McAllister 3; Pens: Dave McAllister 2

Dungannon: Try: Allistair Clarke; Con: Gareth Steenson; Pens: Gareth Steenson 4
