Buccs seal facile victory
Buccaneers 27 Blackrock College 6
Buccaneers surived two sin-binnings at Moher Road to chalk up their second win of the AIB League Division One season, easily defeating visitors Blackrock.
With just one defeat in eight previous games at the Ballinasloe venue, Buccs commanded proceedings throughout and despite losing lock Niall Smullen to a yellow card on 38 minutes, earned a 10-0 half-time lead.
On 7 minutes, veteran prop Martin Cahill dived over from five metres to open the Pirates' account, and full-back Justin Meagher added a conversion and penalty.
Smullen's second row partner, South African Pieter Myburgh - making his AIL debut - was also carded on 65 minutes as 'Rock came back into contention.
Two Conor Kilroy penalties on 58 and 68 minutes was as good as it got though for coach Stephen McIvor - an ex-Buccaneers' favourite.
Connacht wing Ted Robinson crossed on the hour for the home side and after a searing Paddy O'Sullivan break in injury time, Buccs set up lineout possession for hooker Gareth Halligan to peel off for the corner.
Scorers: Buccs: Tries: Martin Cahill, Ted Robinson, Gareth Halligan; Cons: Justin Meagher 3; Pens: Justin Meagher 2
Blackrock: Pens: Conor Kilroy 2
