Ulster have moved to plug a hole in their back row, left by the season-long injury to Neil McMillan, by signing 29-year-old open side Tu Tamarua from English Division One club Henley.

Tamarua has extensive first class experience with NEC Harlequins, Swansea and Queensland Reds.

He has not been registered in time for the Heineken Cup but coach Mark McCall will be delighted to add an old head to a back row department - populated by young guns like Neil Best and Roger Wilson - for the remainder of the Celtic League.

Tamarua has played for the Australian Schools and Australia Sevens’ team. He will arrive in Ulster this week.
