Clontarf maintained their unbeaten start to the AIB All-Ireland League season as full back Dave Hewitt scored the only try in their 11-6 win over Carlow.

Phil Werahiko's side sit second in the Division One standings after prevailing at Oak Park.

Carlow coach-cum-fly-half Richie Murphy pinged over a sixth minute penalty to open the scoring, but the home side always looked second best.

Two minutes later a great move, started by former Carlow player-coach Dan Van Zyl, now resident in the 'Tarf number 9 shirt, put 24-year-old Hewitt in at the left corner.

Clontarf kicker Dave McAllister missed the conversion, but cancelled out Billy Murphy's 41st minute penalty with an injury time effort of his own as the visitors led 8-6 into the break.

McAllister added the only points of a disappointing second half as a ruck infrigment saw him add his second penalty on the hour.
