South Africa were crowned Tri-nations champions after edging out Australia 23-19 in the final match of the tournament in Durban.

The Springboks overturned a 7-3 half-time deficit as they won the Southern Hemisphere competition for only the second time since 1998.

Australia, who would have been champions had they won, staged a late fightback but came up just short in front of an ecstatic home crowd at the ABSA Stadium.
