Exiles MD to carry Olympic torch

London Irish managing director Conor O’Shea has accepted an invitation from the Mayor of London and the British Olympic Association to carry the Olympic Torch on behalf of the London's Irish community in next Saturday’s relay through the city’s streets.

The Exiles managing director will carry the torch on the 400 metre leg of the relay from Charing Cross to Trafalgar Square. The handover to Conor is scheduled to take place at 6.16pm.

Commenting on his selection Conor O’Shea said: “It is a great honour for London Irish and myself to be invited to represent the Irish community in the Olympic Torch relay. I am really looking forward to Saturday afternoon.”

London Irish is encouraging all supporters that may be in the central London area on Saturday afternoon to make their way to the Charing Cross/Trafalgar Square area to cheer Conor on.

The symbolic torch is traveling through London on its worldwide journey from sacred Olympia to Athens via all the cities that have hosted the modern games since their inception by Baron Pierre de Courbertin in 1896.

A 30-mile route will take the flame past some of London's most historic buildings including The Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, the London Eye and Trafalgar Square. A spectacular celebration in central London will complete the day.
