Murphy out of Ireland line up

Ireland suffered a setback on the morning of the second test against South Africa at Newlands with the withdrawal of wing Geordan Murphy due to a chest infection.

Shane Horgan, who was pencilled in to play at inside centre moves to the wing to replace Murphy.

Kevin Maggs comes off the bench to slot in at number 12 and Gavin Duffy comes in on the bench.

The changes should not disrupt the Irish too much. Horgan played on the wing in the first Test in Bloemfontein last week, while Maggs came on in the first half for the injured Gordon D’Arcy at inside centre.

It was a surprise when Irish coach Eddie O’Sullivan decided earlier in the week not to play Maggs from the start and move Horgan into the midfield.

Even though he lost one of his players in the build-up to the match, Sullivan got his wish with a sunny day awaiting his side at Newlands.

O’Sullivan’s side is vying to become the first Irish team to win a test on South African soil.

They were favourites to do so in the first test last Saturday in Bloemfontein, but they Irish side did not perform to their reputation and the Springboks ran out comfortable 31-17 winners.
