Gary Ella has stood down from his position as head coach of Leinster today after a disappointing season for the province.

A statement from the Leinster Branch said that following a review by the Provincial Team Management Committee of the Leinster Branch, it was decided with Ella that he stand down "with immediate effect".

Leinster chief executive Michael Dawson said: "I would like to thank Gary for all his efforts in what has been a difficult season where the absence of players and a lengthy injury list were contributing factors.

"We wish Gary and his family the very best of luck in the future."

A new coach for the province will be announced in the coming days, the Branch said.
