Wasps have form on their side
French giants and reigning European champions Toulouse are braced to meet Wasps’ power game head-on in the Heineken Cup final at Twickenham this weekend.
While Toulouse target a record third European title, Wasps will contest their first Heineken final in an attempt to become the fourth English winners after Bath, Northampton and Leicester.
It has all the ingredients of being a classic encounter, although current form - and effectively home advantage – could swing Sunday’s showdown Wasps’ way.
While Wasps reached a second successive Zurich Premiership final – their title decider with Bath is tomorrow week – by crushing Northampton 57-20 last Sunday, Toulouse suffered a surprise French Championship play-off defeat against Stade Francais.
But Patrice Collazo, Toulouse’s former Gloucester prop, insists that result has already been consigned to history.
“We had to get Saturday’s home defeat to Stade Francais out of our heads, then immediately look ahead to Wasps, because a huge challenge awaits us,” he said.
