Northampton have completed the signing of South Africa international forward Selbourne Boome.

The 29-year-old lock has made the switch following the Stormers’ Super 12 exit against Canterbury Crusaders.

Stormers skipper Boome was part of South Africa’s World Cup squad last autumn, and will link up again with new Northampton rugby director Alan Solomons following spells under his charge at international and Super 12 levels.

“I am very happy to be joining Northampton,” said 20 times-capped Boome, who also enjoyed a spell with French club Montferrand.

“I am sure it will be a great experience and a new challenge for me. I am also very much looking forward to working again with Alan Solomons.

“It will be sad to leave South Africa, but I am looking forward to a new opportunity in the UK.”
