The Ireland Sevens are on course for the Sevens Rugby World Cup in 2005 after emerging as winners on the European Sevens Circuit, a pre-qualifier for the World Cup, at Sopot, Poland, over the weekend.

Ireland defeated Russia 26-17 in the final having accounted for Germany 38-0 at the semi-final stage and the Czech Republic 35-7 in the quarter finals.

In the pools stages Ireland opened with a 33-0 victory over Poland (2), followed that with a 28-5 win over Latvia and finally a 24-5 victory over Poland (1).

Their next engagement is in Croatia on May 15 and 16.
