Luckless Galwegians lose out against Rock
Galwegians 17 Blackrock College 18
Bottom side Galwegians narrowly missed out on their third win of the season, as play-off chasing Blackrock came from behind to secure an 18-17 win at Crowley Park.
Galwegians ran out of gas after an impressive opening, reminiscent of their two-try start against Cork Con in November, as inside centre Darren Balcombe was freed by out-half David Delaney and midfield partner Mervyn Murphy for a first half try.
Blackrock wing Michael Price, scorer of a last minute winner against UCD a fortnight ago, lunged over to cancel out Balcombe's first effort, on 24 minutes for a 7-7 scoreline.
Rock got in again 10 minutes later through number 8 David Dillon, Galwegians were in front at the break, 14-12, thanks to two successful converts from Delaney.
A poor second half from the home side however saw Conor Kilroy edge Delaney 2-1 in the penalty stakes to hand ‘Rock their eighth win of the season, and keep the pressure on fifth-placed Ballymena, a point above them.
