Harlequins go third as Mary's slip again
Belfast Harlequins 24 St Mary's College 9
Number 8 Chris McCarey grabbed a second half brace of tries as Belfast Harlequins moved up to third in Division One, courtesy of their four-try 24-9 win over St Mary's at Deramore Park.
First half tries from out-half Ajay Derwin and left wing Colm Atkinson in the right and left corners handed the home side a 10-0 on the half hour, before Mary's out-half Barry Lynn notched two penalties to make it a four-point game at the break.
A superior forward drive was the key for Andre Bester’s side, who face champions Ballymena in their final game next month.
McCarey got in for two tries, his sixth and seventh efforts of the campaign, in a 15-minute spell in the second half.
The second, a maul off a five-metre take by Simon Shawe, was converted by Derwin, cancelling out a lone Lynn penalty on 69 minutes for the visitors.
The bonus point sees Harlequins ahead of Buccaneers, despite them both being on 39 points.
Mary's are now just three points off the bottom.
