Mary's get vital win against Dungannon

Relegation-threatened St Mary's kept the pressure on the sides above them as tries from Peter Smyth, Ronan Doherty and John Ryan gave them their first home win of the campaign from six attempts.

Brent Pope's side opened up a 16-0 lead at the break through Smyth's try on 12 minutes, converted by out-half Barry Lynn, who was to finish with a personal haul of 19 points.

21-year-old Lynn also notched three penalties and a 30-metre drop goal in the opening period.

Dungannon rallied with Glen Telford, back from Ireland U21 duty, hitting over a 46th minute penalty before winger Doherty got in for his first of the campaign, converted by Lynn.

Dungannon number 8 Oisin Hennessy (52) and his back row colleague Gillan Carruthers (68), his third of the season, brought the scores back to 29-13.

But Mary's second win of the campaign against Ulster opposition, following their 9-6 win in Ballymena before Christmas, was confirmed with John Ryan's 74th minute try.
