Grayson hails Robinson switch
England fly-half Paul Grayson believes Jason Robinson’s conversion to centre has been a complete success and is backing him to cause havoc against Scotland on Saturday.
Robinson was handed the number 13 shirt for the RBS 6 Nations opener against Italy last Sunday and the move paid off handsomely as the former rugby league star ran in a hat-trick of tries.
And now coach Clive Woodward has asked the Sale Sharks back, who had previously lined up on the wing, to continue in his new role when the championship resumes at Murrayfield – a decision which wins a nod of approval from Grayson.
“Jason was tremendous against Italy and is an exceptional player. His skills make him a one-off and the tries that he scored show that,” said the Northampton outside-half.
“The way he ran down a five-metre channel for one of his tries and his opponent did not manage to lay a finger on him was superb. There are not many players who can pull off something like that.
“He manipulates defences by just standing somewhere different and his presence changed the way Italy defended. I imagine he will cause Scotland similar problems on Saturday.”
