Co. Carlow ended a run of seven straight games without a league win, as they scored four tries on their way to a 27-17 win at Dungannon’s Stevenson Park.

The Ulster men, who are also enduring a poor run of late with today’s loss being their fourth straight defeat, were on the back foot throughout although they did manage a try through back row Joel McKenty in the second half.

Full-back and top scorer John McGuckian hit four first half penalties, hauling his season’s total to 86 points, but Carlow were in defiant mood.

Right winger Maurice Logue grabbed his sixth try of the campaign after just eight minutes to be followed by efforts from fullback Billy Murphy, centre Tom Bonnefoy, his second in two games, and second row Pat Holden, his first of the league, as the Oak Park men edged the first half 24-12.

Australian out-half Ben Young kicked two conversions and added a second half penalty past the hour for a comprehensive win, which sees them up to ninth in the table.

Scorers:

Dungannon: Try: Joel McKenty; Pen: John McGuckian 4

Carlow: Tries: Maurice Logue, Billy Murphy, Tom Bonnefoy, Pat Holden; Con: Ben Young 2; Pen: Ben Young
