Ireland centre Brian O’Driscoll was back in light training today, raising hopes that he could be fit for his country’s opening RBS 6 Nations clash with France.

O’Driscoll, who is favourite to take over the captaincy from the retired Keith Wood, suffered a slight hamstring tear in Leinster’s Heineken Cup defeat by Sale a fortnight ago and was initially ruled out for between four and six weeks.
