Win boosts Dolphin's survival hopes

Fourth-from-bottom Dolphin came from behind for only their third win of the season this afternoon at Stevenson Park as Dungannon fell to their second defeat-in-a-row, losing 15-10 to the Cork men.

Five penalties from the boot of the AIL’s all-time top points scorer John O’Mahony gave the visitors the win, with his first three putting Dolphin 10-9 in arrears at the interval.

Indeed O’Mahony had hit five penalties in Dolphin’s previous outing at home to Lansdowne, where his 17 points helped them to a 27-15 win.

Two further well-struck efforts, the second with four minutes remaining from 30 metres, secured the win and O’Mahony’s 106th point of this season.

Dungannon scored the game’s only try from out-half Glen Telford in the first half, with John McGuckian’s conversion and penalty their only other scores.

The win sees Dolphin level on points with tenth-placed Dungannon, but today’s bonus point, a third for Jeremy Davidson’s side sees them head both Dolphin and Garryowen, all tied on 15 points.
